CMSI attended the 2009 RICA-RTG Fall Forum at the Monte Carlo Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. The theme was Preparation Today for Tomorrow.s Success. This is a great show because there are not a lot of vendors and the key decision makers are there getting educated on how they should manage their telephone companies.
The Rural Independent Competitive Alliance ("RICA") was formed in recognition of the significant impact regulatory actions can have on our fledgling competitive operations. Without the ability to effectively influence evolving regulatory policy, we stand the chance of letting our business aspirations be undermined as a result of our interests not being heard, or worse yet, subverted by the proposals of entities whose interests are counter to our own.
Effective advocacy requires a keen undiluted focus, and an intimate knowledge of the issues, and their potential impact. As an advocate created specifically to address issues from the perspective of the rural ILEC competitive service offerings, RICA brings a unique focus, and a uniquely effective approach.
By sponsoring educational forums, sharing the marketplace insight and experience of our members, and providing focused and effective advocacy, RICA stands ready to foster the success of your company as a provider of competitive communication services in rural America.

CARRIER MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS INC. (CMSI) LAUNCHES NAMS FIREFLY AT METASWITCH FORUM 2009
Powerful Network Management development maximizes customer network visibility and revenue assurance
04/08/2009
MetaSwitch Forum 2009, Las Vegas, NV; April 8, 2009-- Carrier Management Systems, Inc., a leading developer of telecommunications network analysis management software (NAMS), today announced the release of their newest software product NAMS Firefly CS, a complete solution that provides combined AMA and SS7 network visibility at a price all companies can afford. The new release will be showcased today at the MetaSwitch Forum 2009 Expo.
NAMS (Network Analysis Management System) is an integrated hardware and software system that gives telephone companies detailed network visibility by combining AMA and SS7 on the same platform. "CMSI’s goal in developing the NAMS Firefly product was to provide superior AMA and SS7 based applications for real time call record searching, revenue assurance, traffic engineering, and fraud detection on a single and affordable platform," said Paul Bilberry, President of CMSI.
"We are very pleased to have CMSI exhibiting at the MetaSwitch Forum 2009," said Andy Randall, vice president of marketing at MetaSwitch. "Our customers really value the opportunity to talk with interoperability partners in the relaxed environment of this event."
NAMS Firefly AMA collects all switch-generated data (call records, traffic measurements, console messages, etc.) in real-time and stores it in a centralized location. This data is then imported into an Oracle database and accessed by rich web-enabled applications to provide assistance in the areas of call record searching, traffic engineering, fraud detection, phantom traffic/access avoidances, interconnection agreements, balance of wireless traffic, network optimization, capacity planning, and customer service.
NAMS Firefly SS7 collects SS7 network-generated data from one or more link sets and stores them in a centralized location on industry grade servers. The ISUP and SCCP/TCAP messages are parsed and imported in real-time into an Oracle database. In addition, the five primary ISUP messages associated with a call (IAM, ACM, ANM, REL, and RLC) are linked together and parsed against the LERG to form a single viewable ISUP Session Record (ISR). These records are utilized to provide ISUP, TCAP, and ISR message search and reporting, SS7 message trailing, in-progress call trap/tracing, phantom traffic reporting, TCAP query validation, link occupancy monitoring, and fraud detection and prevention.
NAMS Firefly CS collects AMA and SS7 messages are simultaneously collected and correlated on one platform and presented in user-friendly applications for better network visibility. Every AMA record has associated SS7 messages which can be correlated to the AMA messages to insure that all billable calls are in fact generating appropriate billing records.
For additional information on the NAMS Firefly product or would like to schedule a product demo please contact Kelly Cannon or Bruce Alexander at 1-800-588-9000 or visit us at www.nams.net. Please browse our product menu bar for the item most relevant to your search.

CMSI would like to announce the development of "NAMS® on Demand" designed for the smaller telephone companies that have a tendency to out source their tele-management functions for cost effectiveness and time efficiency. Several consulting firms approached CMSI to create an outsourcing package that would be cost-effective for the smaller telephone companies to help identify phantom traffic within their smaller networks. "NAMS® on Demand" report categories include:
- Common Toll Exceptions Reports both wire line / wireless w/ Jurisdiction
- Intra/LATA Toll Exception Reports both wire line / wireless w/ Jurisdiction
- EAS groups that are both wire line/wireless w/ Jurisdiction
- Dedicated wireless transiting calls.
CMSI supports the ?honor system? used within the inter-carrier compensation structure and is proud to help identify any call laundering that takes place.

CMSI announces release of Nortel SL-100 SMDR AFT collector. The traditional way of call collection is by serial communication which often resulted in loss of records in the event of system or operational failure. AFT provides a protocol within which call record transfer is repeated or restarted upon system or operational failure resulting in a more reliable collection system. As an exhibitor at the Emory University SL100 Users group held in Atlanta, Georgia, CMSI was the only company Nortel certified with an AFT collector for the SL100 switch.

CMSI attended the Expo 2004 NECA Convention that was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was extremely beneficial to CMSI because one of the main topics discussed was Phantom Traffic. CMSI?s Phantom Tracker™? software was demonstrated continuously throughout the Expo due to the overwhelming discussion of the issue. Our software has been able to help telephone companies claim lost revenue by having valid reports that are tangible to give to state regulators or to the carrier that misroutes the traffic. This software will save companies thousands of dollars each month.

Carrier Management Systems new Phantom Tracker™? software helps identify traffic being wrongfully terminated on common or toll groups. Reporting on EAS and Toll Group Phantom Usage, Phantom Tracker™? breaks the usage down by LATA/MTA jurisdiction so that Intra-LATA toll groups, EAS groups and Common toll groups can be accurately analyzed. The rampant number of cases that have been filed with state regulatory agencies across the US in recent months exemplifies the serious problem of lost revenue caused by incorrect traffic terminations. CMSI?s software helps the telephone company accurately claim what has until now been unidentified phantom traffic. By helping telephone companies increase revenue by identifying unbilled calls, Phantom Tracker™? provides a relatively short return on investment.

Carrier Management Systems Inc. is proud to announce the development of
the new EAS Exception Reporting software. Most local and
long distance telephone companies operate on the honor system when paying
each other to originate and terminate telephone calls within a specific
Local Rate Center. Unfortunately, many local telephone companies are losing
thousands of dollars per month in unbilled access charges due to the incumbents
routing long-distance traffic over trunks that are only dedicated to carry
EAS calls. Local telephone companies often do not have the ability to analyze
this traffic. Even if studies by third party consulting companies are performed,
it is over a specific period and at a significant cost. Most telephone companies
realize that there’s always some amount of questionable traffic, but now
this appears to be much more rampant than was ever expected. Carrier Management Systems new EAS Exception Reporting
software will help your company identify long-distance traffic that was
terminated over trunks designated for only local traffic. Actually this
software will work for all trunk groups, not just EAS and also will break
down the traffic by jurisdiction.

in Overton, Nevada, CMSI installed and certified the system for use on March

now. CMSI support personnel also coordinated a very smooth billing record
transfer cut with our billing company that eased our concerns about making
a transition of this nature".
